Stress-Free Hosting Menu (Easy, Make-Ahead & Buonissimo!)

Florencia Baldini Florencia Baldini Last Updated on June 6, 2026

There’s something so special about hosting friends at home… but let’s be honest, it can also feel a little overwhelming if you’re trying to do too much at once.

What usually makes hosting stressful isn’t the food itself — it’s trying to cook while everyone is already there. You end up half in the kitchen, half in the conversation, constantly checking the oven or stirring something on the hob. And the result? A slightly distracted conversation and an average meal experience for everyone.

But when you prep things in advance, choose recipes that hold well, and set yourself up so everything still looks fresh when guests arrive, everything changes. You actually get to enjoy your friends, be present in the moment, and not worry about what’s happening in the oven or on the stove.

That’s exactly why I love building a stress-free hosting menu made up of easy, prep-ahead recipes that look impressive, taste incredible, and let you actually enjoy your own gathering.

This is exactly what I served when we recently hosted friends for lunch — and honestly, it couldn’t have gone better. Everything was simple, relaxed, and full of flavour… and most importantly, buonissimo.

The Menu

For this lunch, I kept things fresh, colourful, and completely unfussy:

  • Homemade focaccia sandwiches (the star of the table)
  • Orzo, feta & sweetcorn pasta salad
  • Spicy prawn tacos with mango & avocado salsa
  • Healthy Dubai chocolate bars (no-bake dessert)

Everything can be prepped ahead or partially made in advance, which means less stress in the kitchen and more time with your guests.

Focaccia Sandwich (Antico Vinaio Inspired)
I woke up early to bake my homemade focaccia, and I promise you — it’s so much easier than people think, even if you’ve never baked bread before.
The best part? It always gets so many compliments. It’s soft, fluffy, golden on top, and perfect for turning into a build-your-own sandwich board when guests arrive.
When everyone came over, the focaccia was just out of the oven, still warm and smelling incredible. I sliced it up and laid everything out so everyone could build their own sandwiches with:
It instantly feels special, but takes very little effort at the last minute.

Sweetcorn & Avocado Orzo Salad
This is one of my go-to hosting recipes because it gets better as it sits in the fridge.
It’s fresh, slightly creamy, and super satisfying thanks to the feta. The sweetcorn adds a pop of sweetness that balances everything perfectly.
The best part is that it can be made hours (or even a day) in advance, which is exactly what you want when you’re hosting.

Prawn Tacos With Mango & Avocado Salsa
These tacos are always a crowd favourite.
The prawns are quick to cook, lightly spiced, and pair beautifully with the fresh mango & avocado salsa. It’s one of those combinations that feels a little bit restaurant-level but is actually incredibly simple to put together.
I love serving these as a more interactive dish where people can build their own tacos — it keeps everything relaxed and fun.

Healthy Dubai Chocolate Bar
And then… dessert.
This is my favourite dessert of the year. It’s rich, chocolatey, slightly indulgent, but still made with simple, wholesome ingredients.
Even better? It’s no-bake, which means you can make it the day before and forget about it until serving time — a total hosting win.
Every time I make this, it disappears within minutes.
