5 Gut-Friendly Soups For January Reset

Florencia Baldini Florencia Baldini Last Updated on January 15, 2026

Over the past few years — and very much this year too — my goal with food has been simple: to follow science-based evidence for longevity, inspired by Blue Zone living, and to build meals around fibre-rich, real ingredients.

Why fibre? Because it’s one of the most powerful (and underrated) things we can eat more of. A fibre-rich diet supports gut health, helps keep blood sugar stable, feeds our good gut bacteria, and keeps us feeling fuller and more energised — all things that matter for long-term health, not just January resets.

And the best part? Some of the most naturally high-fibre meals already exist in traditional cuisines — especially Italian home cooking. Beans, lentils, vegetables, bread, slow simmering… it’s food that was never designed to be “healthy”, yet ticks every box.

So today I wanted to round up 5 high-fibre, cosy soups that are perfect for January. They’re simple, warming, deeply nourishing, and rooted in that Italian “real food” philosophy — with a few Healthyfloflo twists along the way.

Italian Lentil Stew (Lenticchie in Umido)
This is a classic Italian lentil stew that’s simple, nourishing and full of tradition. Made with lentils slowly simmered in tomato, vegetables and fragrant herbs, this humble one-pot dish is budget-friendly yet deeply satisfying. In Italy, lentils are traditionally eaten at New Year to bring good luck and prosperity, but this comforting stew is perfect all year round. Best enjoyed with a drizzle of olive oil and hot, crusty bread for dunking.

Ribollita (Italian Vegetable & Bread Soup)
Ribollita is a traditional Tuscan vegetable and bread soup made with cannellini beans, seasonal greens and fragrant herbs. Naturally thick, hearty and deeply comforting, it’s a one-pot Italian classic that’s wholesome, budget-friendly and packed with flavour. Even better the next day once re-boiled, just as tradition intends.

Gut Health Soup
Gut Health Soup is a cosy, one-pot meal designed to nourish your gut while still being simple and comforting. Made with fibre-rich cannellini beans, classic Italian soffritto vegetables and a small amount of pasta, this soup is warming, balanced and deeply satisfying. White miso is stirred in right at the end to support gut health without losing its goodness, while fresh spinach adds colour and extra nutrients. Easy to prepare, naturally high in fibre (14g per serving) and perfect for busy days when you want something wholesome, soothing and delicious.

Creamy Curried Chickpea Soup
This Chickpea Soup is an easy, flavour-packed dinner you can have on the table in just 20 minutes. Made with simple pantry spices, creamy coconut and fibre-rich chickpeas, this wholesome soup is comforting, nourishing and surprisingly satisfying. The onions and spices are gently cooked to unlock maximum flavour, the chickpeas are partially blended for a naturally creamy texture, and fresh spinach is stirred through at the end for extra goodness. Finished with crunchy homemade croutons.

If January ever feels long, grey, or a bit sluggish — start with soup. It’s one of the simplest ways to eat well without overthinking it.

I’d love to know which one you’ll make first, or if there’s a soup you grew up eating that still feels like home to you.

If you make one, tag me on Instagram @healthy_floflo or Facebook— I’d love to see your creations!
