There’s something so special about hosting friends at home… but let’s be honest, it can also feel a little overwhelming if you’re trying to do too much at once.
What usually makes hosting stressful isn’t the food itself — it’s trying to cook while everyone is already there. You end up half in the kitchen, half in the conversation, constantly checking the oven or stirring something on the hob. And the result? A slightly distracted conversation and an average meal experience for everyone.
But when you prep things in advance, choose recipes that hold well, and set yourself up so everything still looks fresh when guests arrive, everything changes. You actually get to enjoy your friends, be present in the moment, and not worry about what’s happening in the oven or on the stove.
That’s exactly why I love building a stress-free hosting menu made up of easy, prep-ahead recipes that look impressive, taste incredible, and let you actually enjoy your own gathering.
This is exactly what I served when we recently hosted friends for lunch — and honestly, it couldn’t have gone better. Everything was simple, relaxed, and full of flavour… and most importantly, buonissimo.
The Menu
For this lunch, I kept things fresh, colourful, and completely unfussy:
- Homemade focaccia sandwiches (the star of the table)
- Orzo, feta & sweetcorn pasta salad
- Spicy prawn tacos with mango & avocado salsa
- Healthy Dubai chocolate bars (no-bake dessert)
Everything can be prepped ahead or partially made in advance, which means less stress in the kitchen and more time with your guests.
