If you’re a fan of the viral smash burger taco trend, here’s a healthier spin that doesn’t compromise on flavour! These tacos are high in protein, super easy to make, and a fun twist for taco night or a casual lunch.
Lean beef mince is perfectly seasoned and smashed onto soft wraps, then pan-fried for a crispy, golden finish. Add a generous drizzle of homemade burger sauce, fresh veggies, and your favourite toppings for a meal that hits all the right notes—comforting, nourishing, and downright delicious.
With around 30g of protein per taco, these are great for anyone looking to enjoy a balanced and satisfying meal.

Tips
- Toast the wrap before adding the meat mixture to create a crispy texture and avoid it getting soggy.
- Spread the meat mixture in a thin, even layer on the wrap for better texture and even cooking.
- A non-stick pan makes it easier to flip the wrap without sticking, helping to get that perfect golden crisp.
- These tacos are best enjoyed right after they’re made, so the wrap stays crispy and the toppings stay fresh.
Helthier Homemade Burger Sauce
While you can totally buy burger sauce from the supermarket to speed up preparation times, I love making my own. My version is wholesome, healthier, and high in protein. I think you’re going to love this easy sauce—it’s also versatile enough to use as a dressing for salads. So, it’s great to have this recipe on hand:
60g yoghurt, 1/2 tsp mustard, 1 tsp tomato past, 1/4 garlic, 1/4 paprika, 1/2 tsp honey, salt
Swaps
Beef mince: I have opted for lean beef mince (5% fat) to keep the tacos healthier, but still juicy and packed with protein. For a vegetarian version, use black beans or lentils mixed with spices for a hearty filling. Swap beef mince for turkey or chicken mince for a leaner option.
Wrap: use whole wheat or corn tortillas for a healthier, high-fibre option.
Yoghurt: for a dairy-free version, use coconut yogurt or another plant-based yogurt.
Burger sauce: I made my healthier homemade sauce to go with it but to speed up the process you could also use store-bought ones.
Toppings
Fresh Vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and avocado
Cheese: like cheddar and feta.
Pickled elements: like pickled jalapeños or pickled red onions
Herbs and Greens: coriander (cilantro), mint, spinach
Storage
If you’ve already assembled the tacos, I recommend eating them right away for the best texture. The wraps may become soggy from the sauce and filling over time. If you don’t eat straight away, store the components separately. Keep the meat, wraps, toppings, and sauce in airtight containers in the fridge. Reheat and assemble when ready to enjoy!
