What if your favourite fast-food burger turned into a salad that’s actually good for you? This Big Mac Salad has all the flavour you’re craving—cheesy, tangy, crunchy—but it’s high in protein, low in carbs, and made with a lighter yoghurt-based sauce instead of heavy mayo.
Each portion delivers a huge 55g of protein, making it perfect for lunch or dinner when you want something comforting but still nourishing. You get the golden beef mince, the melted cheese, the creamy burger-style sauce, and that classic lettuce-and-pickle crunch. It’s everything you love… just flipped into a healthy bowl you’ll want on repeat. This one always hits the spot—perfect for meal prep, quick weeknight dinners, or satisfying a burger craving without the bun.
Why This Is Better Than the Real Big Mac
You don’t have to say no to a Big Mac—you just need a better version of it. This salad gives you everything you love about the original: juicy beef, melty cheese, crunchy lettuce, tangy pickles, and that signature burger sauce. But here’s the twist—it’s made with wholesome ingredients, packs over 55g of protein, and skips the refined carbs and sugar-laden sauces. No blood sugar crash. No post-burger slump. Just big flavour and fuel that actually lasts.
Alan and I always enjoy this so much—every time we eat it, we’re surprised by just how buonissimo it tastes. Even though I usually gravitate towards colourful dishes, this one proves looks can be deceiving. It’s filling but never heavy, packed with flavour, and leaves you feeling genuinely good after. Honestly? It tastes better than it looks—and way better than the original. I’d pick this version over the infamous burger any day.
Tips
- Make it ahead: Cook the beef and prep the sauce ahead of time—just store separately and assemble fresh.
- For a spicy twist: Add chilli flakes or a touch of hot sauce to the beef or sauce.
- Add more greens: Throw in shredded cabbage, spinach, or rocket to boost the fibre.
- Want it warmer?: You can lightly steam the lettuce before adding the beef for a warm salad vibe.
Swaps
Greek yoghurt: I use 0% Fage for the sauce, but full-fat or dairy-free yoghurt works too.
Lean beef mince: Turkey mince or vegan mince also works—just adjust seasoning to taste.
Cheese: Try mature cheddar, mozzarella, or your favourite melty cheese.
Pickled cucumbers: Gherkins, cornichons, or even chopped pickled onions can be used.
Storage
Fridge: Store cooked beef and sauce separately in airtight containers for up to 3 days. Assemble fresh to keep the lettuce crisp.
Freezer: Beef mince can be frozen for up to 1 month. Defrost fully and reheat before serving.
