Ingredients

  • 300 g fresh cranberries
  • 150 ml maple syrup
  • 100 ml water
  • 90 g fresh orange juice
  • 2 cm piece fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients in a saucepan: the cranberries, orange juice, maple syrup, water, ginger, cinnamon stick, and cloves.
  • Bring everything to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer until the cranberries soften and begin to pop, around 15–20 minutes.
  • Remove the ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
  • Let the sauce cool completely.
  • Transfer into sterilised jars and seal tightly.

Notes

  • This recipe makes 1 medium jar (about 350–400g) and serves 8–10 as a condiment.
  • Suitable for both Christmas and Thanksgiving, with a bright, naturally sweetened flavour.
  • You can use frozen or fresh cranberries — both work the same.
  • The sauce thickens as it cools; simmer a little longer if you prefer it thicker.
  • Delicious with Christmas dinner, turkey sandwiches, cheese boards, or spooned over yoghurt.
